As much as I absolutely love living in Spain you can't take the girl out of Manchester, and It does you the world of good to take a trip home to catch up with family and friends. Its been near enough to the day a full year I was back. Manchester I love you but definately not the airport. People who know me know I am petrified of flying especially on my own. By george this chick did it. #proud
Alicante Airport I really can not fault. It was so organised. Sailed right through security and was soon sat in the bar having a well deserved vino. The flight itself was very smooth as well. Then it was queues galore getting out of Manchester airport. Not to mention flying back and it taking 45mins to get through security and thats fast track.
SORT IT OUT MANCHESTER AIRPORT You are an embarresment!! #airportstress
Anyway first stop Poulton-le-Fylde to catch up with one of my oldest dearest greatest friends Derek.
I met this gorgeous guy when I was working at the Cromford Club Casino, Manchester as a croupier, yes I have done that job too back in the day, and his partner Brian was the head cashier.
We have been lifelong friends ever since. Thanks for the lunch my treat next time.. #friendsforever
Then it was off to Great Eccleston for a catch up with these guys. Seedy, Mucky D & our lovely Rubes. Guys if your looking for a haircut in this area then look no further than The Barber Shop in Great Eccleston!! Ruby is THE best Barber around. Check this little hidden gem out. https://www.facebook.com/GreatEcclestonBarbers
I actually flew home for a big charity event put on by Mani & Imelda Mounfield at the amazing venue Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, Manchester.
What a fantastic night was had by all and loads of pennies was raised. #charity
Read all about how they got on right here. https://aboutmanchester.co.uk/stone-roses-bassist-mani-raises-over-100k-for-the-christie-and-stockport-nhs-charity/?fbclid=IwAR0ggZMVH4Z6gAbXYwm6wnrVT9pGsCV9tzBQazlKsy7yKF7DNU1kZTVDZlU
Two Manchester legends in their own rights. Mani, Stone Roses & of course Clint Boon, Inspiral Carpets doing what they do and spinning some great tunage.
And the Queen of Manchester herself Rowetta known mostly from being in Happy Mondays, was also entertaining the crowd.
Too much fun... #friendsforlife
It was Mani's 60th birthday so the Celebrations carried on all weekend. #bdayboy
Far too many pictures to choose from so here's just a few.
It was great to be part of it all.
Needed a weeks rest when I got back to Spain.
The Kimpton Clocktower Hotel was a fantastic hotel to hold the event at and we stayed the night. Very impressive down to the staff who checked us in to the breakfast staff the next day who really couldn't do enough for us. The only moan I have is there was not enough bar staff for the event and it took far too long to get served. Not good for a big event like that.
With its namesake clocktower, grand Victorian facade, Kimpton Clocktower Hotel impresses from the get-go, standing proudly on its street corner and distinguishing itself from its gritty surroundings. Hints of greenery, wafting music, and a Mancunian welcome from the doorman hint at what’s to come: an approachable destination that’s never stuffy—one that fuses sumptuous details (like the lobby’s beautiful glass dome and signature bronze horse sculpture) with raw, real artisan touches. Every interaction is warm yet fluff-free, making our Manchester hotel a draw for international travelers and locals alike, who come together, whisky in-hand, to breathe new life into one of the city’s most famous buildings.
We got a bargain by sharing a room between 4 of us.
It was massive.
Complimentary water, tea making facilities, dressing gowns & slippers.
Well worth it.
And the breakfast the next day was amazing.
In the Winter Gardens room.
Buffet style all you could eat & drink.
So if your looking for somewhere to stay in Manchester I definately recommend this hotel.
Manchester I really do love you especially first thing in the morning when there is hardly anyone about. A stroll along the deserted streets on a sunny frosty morning, lovely!!
Manchester is all the rage and is waiting for you with open arms ! You have to know its collection of world-class museums, its cozy pubs, its gastronomic scene , its shops for all tastes . And, above all, its young, tolerant and cosmopolitan character, present in the most classic places and also in its fashionable neighborhoods , such as the Northern Quarter, you will find everything from organic cafeterias to vegan restaurants, passing through vintage stores and some of the best city pubs.
Manchester was right at the heart of the Revolution, becoming the UK's leading producer of cotton and textiles . Manchester is also famous for being the first industrialized city in the world. Manchester was responsible for the country's first ever working canal in 1761 and the world's first ever railway line in 1830 #canal #city #mancs
Not many people know the history behind the Manchester bee...
The Manchester worker bee is one of the best-known symbols of Manchester and has been an emblem for the city for over 150 years.
The bee denotes Mancunians' hard work ethic and the city being a hive of activity.
It has also come to represent the sense of unity in our great city. #bee
Family get together at the Mumzys..
As always it was fantastic to see everyone together. Making memories.
I have a family of gorgeous nutters!!
See you all in another year!!
Last but not least on this crazy weekend was spent at The Waterside and Restaurant with my Popsy, Chris and gorgeous amiga Gaynor. What a great choice by Gaynor it was too. A beautiful place situated right on the canal. Not that it was sitting outside weather it was absolutely bouncing down.
The food & service was fantastic. While 3 of us opted for the Sunday roast popsy had fish & chips. The place had a great atmosphere even a pianist was playing. A definately must go back to place.
They have a facebook page https://www.facebook.com/cromptonsatthewaterside and a website https://www.watersidebarrestaurant.com/
My popsy and I even shared a bowl of soup for our starter which was great because sometimes its too much.
Like I said the staff really couldn't do enough for us.
Just what the doctor ordered after a very hectic few days!!
Back home in Spain and like I said earlier I needed a week to get over the madness of being back in the UK. So I decided to catch a cold. It was just a common cold and not covid.
Is there such a thing now as just a cold now? #commoncold #covid
I've been doing some trekin with a mate all over the campo. Found some great trails. Its good for the soul to get out and about in the fresh air. I even bought some proper walking boots, which of course gave me blisters! #walking #Spain #topoftheworld
And in the middle of absolutely nowhere we came across this Apiary. An absolutely mad thing to see with no-one about.
A place where honey bees are kept is called an Apiary or a bee yard.
An apiary may refer to a hobbyist's hives or those used for commercial or educational usage.
Hive is a structure for housing a swarm of honeybees while apiary is a place where bees and their hives are kept.
Awww how can I dare to nearly forget mention it was my world's birthday. She is now the ripe old age of 14. Happy Birthday my gorgeous Queen Minni...
